The Christians of the Middle East [500 - 900AD]
While Christians were spreading across the Roman world, they were also spreading east, in Mesopotamia, Persia and Arabia. Here, however, their story was different. Without the Constantinian conversion, they remained under the rule of non-Christian powers, first the Sassanian Persian kings, then the Islamic Caliphate. In this series we will dive into the Christian monasteries and villages of Mesopotamia. We’ll meet the martyrs and missionaries under the Persians, and tell the stories of Christians in Arabia and Baghdad at the dawn of Muslim rule.

What was it really like being a Christian in, what the Romans called, the dark isles of ‘magic and monsters’? And how much can we really know about their faith?
